2010 here I come....

So it's almost 2010 and I can't wait. I love even numbers....plus 2009 was difficult. Some good things happened in 2009....I established myself in Texas and have been working for over a year...but I'm hoping that 2010 will bring me more happiness in my personal life than 2009 did. My goals this next year are to complete a manuscript, finish the several books that I have not finished reading, and try to get money saved.

So I've started reading Under the Dome, the latest by Stephen king.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry.

But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

So I am excited, I'm 20 pages in so far and it catches you from the very beginning....this is a tall tale that this book will be spectacular. Tune in for my review.....once I've finished the ginormous book.

Day with A and Z....

Had a good day with A and Z, my roommates children. We went shopping at walmart in the morning for dinner and other things, then we made our lunch and walked to the park, well they road their bikes. Z just got his training wheels off, so he wobbled a lot. We ate our lunch, I took several videos of them making a mess of themselves and sent them to their mother. It was fun. Then we went home and made a giant gingerbread house, and some sunchaser thingies... then cooked dinner. I did fried chicken, gizzards, giant backed potatoes and this broccoli and carrot dish mixed with mayo and butter. I grew up on it and it was my first time. Roomie didn't like it, but hey it was worth a shot....lol.... all in all it was a good day. Now for day two with the kids, and only three more days till XMAS!

My first YA book

So I completed the profile of main character in the first book of a YA series I plan to write. I've also completed the first chapter. I like it. I've sent it off to my 17 year old sister, who I am using as a sounding board and collaborator for this book. This new series is about the descendants of Elemental Aliens who had to flee from their home planet due to it's impending death, and had to resume their lives on Earth. Each book will be about the last descendant of the five elemental aliens that came to our planet, Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Metal. They will deal with their own personal troubles, a long with finding out who they truly are and how they are all connected to each other. I hope that this will be a successful series.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So I saw The Half-Blood Prince back when they had the midnight showing during the summer, and I decided that I would re-read the Deathly Hallows, so that this time around I would remember what was in the book when I went and saw the movie. Seeing as they are doing two movies, which I hope they are able to stick to books a bit more easily than they have in the past, I know that I will go with knowing what should be in the movie and what shouldn't. I am just wondering if they will be able to keep it at a PG-13 rating, because Deathly Hallows is a very dark book, well not very, but darker than the rest, and if they are going to be true to the book, and make two movies, then I'm curious as to how they'll be able to do this.

 *Update 12.14.09*
Finally finished it, and so here's my review....
By J. K. Rowling
Arthur A. Levine Books (2007)
Hardback
759 pages
ISBN 0545010225

Burdened with the dark, dangerous, and seemingly impossible task of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes, Harry, feeling alone and uncertain about his future, struggles to find the inner strength he needs to follow the path set out before him.

I really enjoyed this one, it was the darkest of them all, but had a lot of twists and turns that you didn't expect. It really tore at my heart when Ron left Hermione and Harry, and how it really hurt Hermione the most. I was so happy to see Ron show back up. I don't know if Harry should have kept the truth about what he was doing for so long, especially since Hermione and Ron are his best friends and have been through so much with him, but Harry still had to get through his own troubles, especially the pain from seeing into Voldemort's mind. It was so hard to read about all my favorite characters dieing in the end, but when you are writing such a dark book, there is going to be death. I was so happy to see Neville stand up and be just like his parents, willing to die for those he loved. I was so proud of him. When Harry finally learned about Snape and his mother and the fact that Snape was always with Dumbledore, that just made smile deeply. Harry was so torn about the death of Dumbledore, especially at the hands of Snape and it was great to see that wash away when he saw Snape's memories. In the end it was fantastic, to go 19 years later and to be able to see what came of Heroine, Ron, Harry and Ginny and all the others, it was wonderful. Now I want a new series to be written about Harry and all them and their children.

Stephen King's 'Cell' to Hit the Small Screen Instead

Stephen King's 'Cell' to Hit the Small Screen Instead

Stephen King's 'Cell' to Hit the Small Screen Instead

(Remember wayyy back when Eli Roth was attached to direct a film based on Stephen King's Cell? Yeah, well, that obviously didn't happen, and now word has it those Weinstein boys have decided to take the property to the small screen instead. Here's Peter Hall reporting for Horror Squad)

Fangoria got out word today from the Fantasia Film Festival that Stephen King's Cell is no longer destined for the silver screen. Instead the novel will be reborn as a four hour TV mini-series to be scripted by John Harrison. Details are rather sparse at this stage, but Harrison tells Fango his take on the material will be closer to a classic creeper like Village of the Damned (I hope Harrison is referring to the original and not the languid John Carpenter remake) than an all out zombie movie.

If you recall Eli Roth was long attached to a film adaptation of King's novel about a cell phone pulse that scrambles the inner workings of any poor sap that hears it, converting them instantly into a murderous member of a new society.

Read the rest on Horror Squad

Personally I think this is great news. I still remember my reaction to the original Roth attachment and how he envisioned the whole thing as a global blood bath. King's novel certainly has its share of apocalyptic waves of bloodshed, but its core is an intimate story of a band of survivors in a world turned upside-down, which is something I never pegged Roth as a being that interested in. I'm glad to hear that Cell has expanded its exhibition (no way that book should have been crammed into an opening weekend pleasing 100 minutes, anyway) while contracting its scope closer to that of King's original vision.

WHERE WERE YOU ON OCTOBER 1ST AT 3:03 P.M.?

Graphic artist Clay Riddell was in the heart of Boston on that brilliant autumn afternoon when hell was unleashed before his eyes. Without warning, carnage and chaos reigned. Ordinary people fell victim to the basest, most animalistic destruction.
And the apocalypse began with the ring of a cell phone...
I read this book several years ago, and to this day I still enjoy it. It is a nice twist to zombies and tears at your heart strings as you follow Clay Riddell and a few other survivors as he tries to find his son. Mr. King really turns his "zombies" into more of a thinking class, that has tapped into it's animal side and leaves all of it's humanity behind. The zombies band together and in the end you wonder if there is any way that the world will ever be the same again.

Updates...

So I've been updating my blog. I'm wanting it to be more than just what's going on in my life. I want to use it to talk about the books I love and movies and everything. So I'm going to start posting my own reviews of books, and movies and what not. I hope you enjoy them.

New works....

So I've been working on my Cold Case story, but I've hit a point where I'm stuck on what to do next, so one of my favorite authors, Lara Adrian, suggested that I take a break and walk away from it for a little bit. So now I'm working on another idea I had for a YA (Young Adult) series. With the help my 17 year old sister I hope to be able to create something that her and her friends and the rest of the YA world will enjoy. It's not yet titled, but it has to do with Elemental beings and their decendants. I am very excited.
